Iran vs. Hollywood?

Iran is planning to sue the studio behind Argo for misrepresenting the country in the Oscar-winning film. Earlier complaints from Iran have also centred around 300 and The Wrestler. Isabelle Coutant-Peyre, a controversial lawyer engaged to Ilich Ramírez Sánchez (a.k.a Carlos the Jackal), is reportedly representing the Iranian government. The details don’t seem to be completely clear for the time being,

Canon releases moonlit video footage using new sensor.

Just over a week ago, Canon released this press release announcing a brand new prototype; a 35mm CMOS sensor for video, that can record even faint stars and only requires the light of the full moon to capture a scene. Yes, feel free to reread that. Can this really surpass the human eye? No word on dynamic range yet but I think humanity is still superior in that regard – for now…

‘The sensor facilitates the shooting of clearly visible video images even in dimly lit environments with as little as 0.03 lux of illumination, or approximately the brightness of a crescent moon.’ — Canon Inc.

If you can’t beat ’em, reduce ’em

Metabones’ new mount doesn’t just allow DSLR lenses to be used on many cameras without an EF mount, but it also reduces the image from the full frame lens to fit onto a smaller sensor, essentially resulting in a full frame image from a crop sensor.

‘In a nutshell, it makes your lens faster, wider and sharper!’
